Chair and Deputy Treasurer – Martin Field
Local parties depend on leadership from the CLP Chair. Other officers look to the Chair to provide support and direction and members depend on their leadership to organise and inspire them in effective campaigns. Effective Chairs facilitate meetings, decisions and ensure the CLP operates fairly. Martin Field in this role shows impartiality, co-ordination, diligence and excellent communication and leadership skills.
Vice Chair (Campaigns and Membership) and Secretary – Janet O’Keefe and Jamie Eames
Across the country, the aim for every Labour CLP is to campaign for change in our local communities and campaign to get our candidates elected. Janet and Jamie work with members and harness the skills of our volunteers to create a vibrant, inclusive, outward-looking local party.
A strong and dynamic CLP Secretary ensures an outward-looking and vibrant local Labour Party. Janet and Jamie are organised individuals who work as part of a team, show initiative and are able to juggle many responsibilities. Together they are the Labour Party figurehead in North East Cambridgeshire who make our party a strong, vibrant, welcoming and effective unit.
Jamie Eames is also the Political Education & Training Officer, offering members opportunities for political education, through interesting, informative and dynamic political discussions, and training, through dedicated online and in-person events and by signposting national resources. Jamie helps members to engage with Labour Party policy, and ensures that the campaigning work of the constituency reaches out and informs the wider community about Labour’s message and the importance of participation in politics. As part of the Executive and Campaign Committees, Jamie ensures our members and activists have the skills and tools they need to get involved, to speak to voters and to run successful election and community campaigns. As IT Officer Jamie also supports our use of the Campaigning tools Contact Creator and Doorstep app used for collecting data on voters to maximise our effectiveness on polling day.
Women’s Officer – Hannah Orbell
The Women’s Officer is the key representative of women members on the executive of the CLP, and works to ensure that women are fully involved in the work of the local party, as well as, taking a leading role in making sure that the campaigning work of the constituency reaches out and engages with women voters.
Hannah Orbell is friendly and approachable, organised, able to run events and above all is prepared to work hard to ensure that women members have a real voice within the local party.
Treasurer and TULO – George Broughton
George Broughton as CLP Treasurer plays key role ensuring the local party complies with the party funding laws as well as helping the CLP to build the financial resources it needs to run effective campaigns by setting budgets and fundraising targets. George is also TULO strengthening the link between the affiliated trade unions and the Party at a local level. Trade unions bring the collective voices of working people to the heart of our Party.
George is passionate about the trade union link with great relationship building and networking skills.
BAME Officer – Kunaal Gupta
Kunaal Gupta is the key representative of BAME members within the CLP, and works to ensure that BAME members are fully involved in the work of the local party, and he takes a leading role in making sure that the campaigning work of the constituency reaches out and engages with Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority voters. He is friendly and approachable, organised, and works hard to ensure that BAME members have a real voice within the local party.
Functional Officers
Policy Officer – Benedict Allen
Benedict Allen is the main point of contact for offering members meaningful opportunities to help develop Labour party policy, facilitating discussions around policy topics, informing members about the process of policy formation and feeding CLP input into the National Policy Forum.
LGBT+ Officer – Peter Gilman
Peter Gilman ensures that LGBT+ issues are heard, recognised and supported within the work of the CLP. Peter works to ensure that LGBT+ people are actively involved in the Party at a local level and makes sure that the Party reaches out and connects with LGBT+ people locally by campaigning on the issues that are important to them.
Youth Officer – Sebastian O’Keefe
Sebastian O’Keefe is also the youth officer who welcomes young members into the local Labour Party, engages them with interesting events and socials, and helps them become active members who campaign for change in the community and to get Labour elected. Seb makes sure that the voices of young members are heard and respected within our local Labour Party.
Disability Officer – Mikala Bromley-Critchell
Mikala Bromley-Critchell is the key representative of disabled members within the CLP, and works to ensure that disabled members are fully involved in the work of the local party, as well as taking a leading role in making sure that the campaigning work of the constituency reaches out and engages with disabled voters.
Mikala is friendly and approachable, organised, able to run events and above all prepared to work hard to ensure that disabled members have a strong voice within the local party.
Political Education and Training and IT Officer-Jamie Eames
Ensures the CLP has a programme of political education events and activities throughout the
year, in particular securing speakers and organising discussions at the CLP’s bi-monthly
meetings.
Communications and Social Media Officer-Rosie Veitch
Rosie Veitch is responsible for CLP contact with the media, including press releases, our website and social media.
Fundraising and Social Events Coordinators – Mandy Hirson and Seb O’Keefe
The Campaign Committee consists of Chair (Martin Field), Vice Chairs (Janet O’Keefe and Jamie Eames), Treasurer (George Broughton), candidate (PPC or Local Election District or County Council Candidates) and election agent (Richard Hirson) to organise campaigning
across the constituency, as agreed by the EC and CLP.
Election Agent – Richard Hirson
The Election Agent is responsible for the conduct of candidates political campaigns and to
whom election material is sent by whoever is conducting the election. The Electoral
Commission provides periodic guidance. Election agents are responsible for sanctioning all
expenditure on the candidate’s campaign, for maintaining the accuracy of and submitting to
the returning officer the candidate’s expenses and other documents, as well as deciding
whether to contest the result of a count. Agents are also permitted to oversee the polling and
counting of votes to ensure the accuracy and impartiality of the election, and may appoint
polling and counting agents to assist them in those tasks. The number of polling and
counting agents that can be appointed is determined by the returning officer of the election
and they must be appointed by a set date laid out in the timetable of the election.
